Bengali New Year or Poyel Boishakh is the first day of Bengali calendar, celebrated in both Bangladesh and West Bengal, and Bengali communities in Assam and Tripura. Which coincides with New Year's Day in many calendars of South Asia.

The Bengali calendar is closely related to Vedic Hindu solar calendar based on the Surya Siddhanta. As with many other variants of the Hindu solar calendar, the Bengali calendar begins in mid-April of the Gregorian year.

Poyela Boishakh is celebrated with great zeal in the South Asia region of Bengal and Bengali communities in the Indian states of Assam and Tripura. Boishakh Poyel coincide with New Year in many other calendars in southern Asia.
